The conch shell is a traditional wind instrument made from a large conch shell. In many cultures in the past, it was used as a signaling instrument, for example in religious ceremonies, as an alarm or orientation aid or for communication over long distances. It is usually played by blowing into the opening of the shell, whereby the sound is influenced by the shape and size of the shell. In some regions, the conch shell is still used today on festive occasions or as a symbol of closeness to nature.
