Udu drums originated among the Igbo (Ibo) people of southeastern Nigeria. It is an ancient instrument that has become a popular percussion instrument. In Igbo country there are two versions of udus, The one with a side hole was played by women. The other version is much larger and has only one wide opening at the top.
