This special double flute is handmade in the mountains of southern Arizona from Spanish cedar.

Material & Sound

• Wood: Spanish cedar (softwood)
• Sound character: melodic, resonant and warm
• Decorated with black onyx cabochons (stone inlays)

Playing style & sound

• One side: melody
• Other side: drone (fundamental tone)
• Result: sound like two people playing at the same time

Double flutes are played like single flutes, but require

• more breath or air pressure
• Larger flutes = more air required

This "Two Hawks" double flute is:

• the smallest of the mean-tone double flutes
• particularly accessible & easy to play
• without the high pitch of an octave flute
