The Tirupati Harinam harmonium is a particularly small, light and robust instrument with a penetratingly powerful sound. However, its small bellows give it very little sustain. Ideal for traveling, for accompanying kirtans and group chants and for rhythmically accentuated playing.

Chordal playing with long sustained sounds and variable volume is only possible to a limited extent due to the small bellows volume. The low weight and small size are achieved by an intelligent construction, without a complicated and failure-prone folding mechanism. The slanted position of the keyboard takes some getting used to when the instrument is placed on the floor - due to the lack of a lower case. However, if you sit cross-legged, you can lean the Tirupati Harinam against your legs and have the keyboard horizontally close to your body. Each note is equipped with two single-quality reeds in the middle and low octave (male / bass) - this produces a powerful, penetrating sound. It is not possible to use the two sets of reeds separately because the Harinam has no register separation. The outer bellows at the back opens upwards and fills when it is unlocked. To play, you have to pull it towards you against a slight spring resistance. The inner bellows opens downwards and has removable springs with which its tension can be adjusted. The range is smaller than that of full-size harmoniums, but sufficient for all common mantras and kirtans. With a shoulder strap through the attached carrying rings, the Harinam harmonium can also be played while standing.

  Pine wood is mainly used for harmoniums in the Delhi area and is much softer than the teak wood more commonly used in Mumbai and Kolkata. This is why many pine harmoniums get small dents or other blemishes during production and transportation to Europe - these are due to the material and should not be regarded as defects.
